What Is Psychological Artistry?
Psychological Artistry is the science of psychology, neuroscience, behavioural insights and merging it with the art of mind magic and mentalism. We take the building blocks of magic and psychology and transform them so that you can use them to show people what you do, what makes you different and demonstrate powerful and entertaining skills.
We do this by weaving together overlapping areas of delivery such as:
- Presentation Skills
- Human Behaviour
- Story Telling
- Magic tricks
- Magician's Mindset
These are our objectives for you on the Psychological Artistry Day. To see more go to Psychological Artistry
You Can' t Believe What You See, But You See What You Believe
I' ve found that, by immersing myself over the past two decades in their findings, Neuroscience and Behavioural Insights can help you see inside of your brain and add so much more to your understanding how people think, act and behave.
I' m using these findings and practical, everyday experiences by taking the wisdom of these disciplines and combining them with the magician' s mindset. You can see in the video below that you can' t believe what you see, but you see what you believe:
The Theory of Illusion
A strong visual illusion will make you;
- See something that isn' t there
- Fail to see something that is
- Or, see something different to what is there
However, as well as all of this, a good illusion does more than just play with what you see. In this short video of the “McGurk Effect" you can experience a strange, audio illusion and learn that what your eyes see can influence what your ears hear.
The Mysterious, The Wonderful and The Illusionary
It' s easy to imagine that these illusions happen only on pieces of paper, on computer screens or during magic tricks. Easy, but wrong. They happen to you every day, in almost every activity you can think of. They' re significant in all areas of our lives, affecting;
- Our Identity (How you see yourself)
- Our Aspirations (What you want to do in life)
- Our Drives (Why you get out of bed in the morning)
- Our Ambitions (Where you want to go)
- Our Personality (Who you are)
Illusion plays a critical role in your life and in everyone else' s. They determine how you act, behave and think. Psychological Artistry is about learning about illusions and how they are linked in your life.
One of the key benefits of understanding and appreciating Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry is being able to use it to amplify your message. You can add in the spice of the mysterious, the wonderful and the illusionary to what you do on a day-to-day basis.
We crave mystery, surprise and being mystified. We love puzzles, solutions and thought-provoking ideas that take us from the unknown, to the ah-ha moment, and back into the unknowable. This is reflected in Emmanuel Kant' s “I get it”, “No, I don' t,” and “Tell me more” model that we talked about in the previous feature.
- What do you marvel at?
- Do you have time to marvel?
- Where do you get your sense of wonder from?
Creating Unusual Creativity
Innovation and creativity lies at the heart of Psychological Artistry and Mind Magic. It is the fuel that stirs the engine of magic, psychology, art and science and adds to the march of progress. Without creativity, the world would be colourless, dispassionate and cold.
At Mindsways, and through the Psychological Artistry day, we are dedicated to bringing that spark of life into what you do. Whether it is coaching, training, consultancy, marketing, presenting and therapy, you can understand and apply your creative side using Artforming. The power of Art Forming lies in uniting communication and emotion. Communication is what you have to say, art is how you say it. Art Forming evokes emotion, and by tapping into this power, there are no limits to how you can communicate your message and what you can help people understand. Art evokes our values, our feelings and our memories.
It resonates with us on all levels and stimulates moods, behaviours and our thoughts themselves. Art can take your brand to a whole new level.
Psychological Artistry is about how we can all be better and do better whilst combatting mental rigidity, emotional rigidity and performance rigidity. The culmination of psychology, art, illusions and the mysterious all create something fun, meaningful and memorable, all whilst learning something special along the way.You can find out more about Artforming by seeing our previous feature: Artforming Around You
In conclusion, Psychological Artistry is made up of:
- Psychology - Understanding how and why we behave the way we do
- Art - The spark behind passion and creativity
- The Unexpected - Something familiar with a new twist
In this feature, you have learned about the role that illusions play in your day to day life, how powerful mystery and surprise can be and what the power of artforming can give you.
If you' ve found this useful, please share it with as many people as possible. I really appreciate the time you' ve spent to read through to this point, thank you. If you want to learn more and book your place on the Psychological Artistry day, please go to go to Psychological Artistry
