Being able to communicate effectively is about thinking in new, fresh and original ways. It’s about delivering innovative, creative and personal experiences. It’s about having novel, unique and authentic messages. But ultimately, it’s about being able to trust your inner story. Here’s what can you expect from doing this:
1. Delve Into Different Mindsets
To be able to get your message across, you must first realise that communication is a two-way street.
Not only do you bring yourself to any conversation, but your audience (whether it’s one person or a thousand) bring themselves and all of their baggage to it as well.
They have millions of experiences from across their lifetime which inform their mindset. Some are positive, some are negative, some are completely neutral. It’s your job as a communicator to know which ones are at the front of their mind.
Have they talked to you before and come away thinking how passionate, loyal and enthusiastic you are about your message? Or do they have previous experience with sales professionals that make them think you’re going to be sleazy and dishonest?

2. Flex Your Novelty Muscles
How do you think about doing something new?
Does it scare you? Do you feel excited? Does that feeling change if it’s trying something new for lunch, visiting a new country or pushing your mind, body and soul to the limits with something like skydiving or practicing extreme forgiveness?
Most people don’t give novelty much thought, but it’s incredibly important to learning, growing and maintaining a sharp and healthy mind. Embracing the new means you have the potential for far more connections in your brain. It means you become far more open to different mindsets. It means you become far less likely to be stunted, close-minded and afraid.
More than this though, the way we think of novelty is as a muscle. Like every other muscle, we must learn to flex it, to push it and make it grow through using it. On the Psychological Artistry Live! 3. Raise Yours and Other’s Wellbeing and Cognitive Fitness

Wellbeing is defined as a state characterised by a feeling of health, wealth, happiness and prosperity. It’s the idea that regardless of our current surroundings, whether it’s financial distress, physical strain, environmental challenges or a deep emotional struggle, we can maintain positive control of our mental condition.
It doesn’t come overnight though. It takes months and years of practice through mindfulness. Much like novelty, we must learn how to stretch, bend and use this when times get tough.

4. Design New Thinking Styles
What is creativity? What is passion? What is inspiration? These three questions all have the same answer; they’re all powerful and influential thinking styles.
Thinking styles and mindsets differ ever so slightly. A mindset is something that is informed by our entire lifetime’s worth of experiences. It is informed by the stories we tell ourselves and the stories we tell others. A thinking style, on the other hand, is a particular attitude we have towards a task at hand. This is very similar to the difference between a State and a Trait.
It becomes a very different exercise, then, when we set out to design our thinking style. Rather than let a negative set of experiences inform and guide our thinking around creativity, positivity and inspiration, we can go out of our way to produce something far more positive.
People have said to me that “performing isn’t my thing”, or that “I’m far too old to learn something new like that”, even “I’ve got a certain level of professionalism to maintain! I can’t just do something creative like this!”
These people have seen the power of doing something new, doing something different, getting themselves noticed and heard above the crowd, and they’ve been scared by their own potential. I felt that way for a long time, but I realised that if I kept doing the same thing over and over again, I’d get the same results over and over again. And I did not want that.
I want to do something important with my life. I want to add something to the world. I want to make a difference. Having an old, scared thinking style wasn’t going to let me do that.
Designing new thinking styles is the culmination of the previous steps: Delving into different mindsets, flexing your novelty muscles and raising cognitive fitness. You must be able to see there is a different way of thinking (your mindset), take actions to change your current thinking style (flexing your novelty muscle) and see the results from these new changes (your cognitive fitness). It’s these steps that we look to take you on through Psychological Artistry Live!
5. Form Strong Empathy Bonds
Lastly, we come to the ultimate goal of any communication: forming strong empathy bonds.
It’s easy for us to become obsessed with numbers on a spread sheet, to think of facts and figures, to see business as nothing but a series of digits on a screen. We almost become addicted to this idea. I did for a long, long time.
But this misses the point. Businesses aren’t made up of numbers, they’re made up of people. They’re not made up of facts, but feelings. The true currency of business isn’t pounds or euros or dollars, it’s a deep and meaningful connection between people. It’s empathy.
So how do you form a strong bond of empathy? It’s simple, and we’ve already gone through it:
- Step 1: You see the world from their point of view.
- Step 2: You bring something new to the table.
- Step 3: You raise their state of health, wealth, happiness and prosperity.
- Step 4: You design a new way of thinking they can take away.
- Step 5: You tie it all together with your vision
